The Holt Indians won their first home game in over two years, defeating the Ft. Zumwalt East Lions 62-35 behind a 441 yard/8-TD performance by Sophomore RB Cole Mueller. This was the annual Senior game, honoring the seniors before the game.
The Indians scored early and often in the first half, the O-line opened huge holes all night for Mueller he made the most of it. The 441 yards and 8-TDs are both school records. Junior QB Drew Lock worked in some nice throws and some nice runs of his own to keep the Lion defense off balance. Senior WR Mason Zoellner had a very nice over the shoulder catch for a TD.
The Indian defense was dominant in the first half, led by Senior LBs Zashon Johnson and Mitch Richterkessing they came up big series after series with several batted balls and sacks. The D-line also was big all night long putting pressure on the Lions QB and filling holes in the line keeping the Lion running game in check. Senior DB Will Coleman also had an interception for a TD called back for a block in the back penalty.
The Lions made a run in the second half to try and come back, but in the end could not stop the Indians offense.
Next up is the season regular season finale at Troy Buchannan HS on Friday October 14th.
