The Holt Indians played their most complete game to date this year, racking up over a hundred yards on the ground and limiting the visiting Bluejays to 28 points, but they came up short in the end losing to Washington 28-20.
The offense started off the scoring with a nice drive, behind the rushing of Cole Mueller. The young offensive line of the Indians is coming together as a solid unit giving QB Drew Law time to throw and opening up holes for Mueller. Senior Mason Zoellner came up with a few big catches in the second half to keep the chains moving. The offense could not overcome a couple costly fumbles though, that may have been the difference in the game.
The defensive unit is steadily making progress, even after losing inside linebackers Zashon Johnson and Davon Scott to injury. Seniors Hunter Mehrle and Shane Marion moved inside and played well, along with Senior Mitch Richterkessing who recorded a sack.
Special teams started off sluggish by getting the extra point blocked on the opening touchdown, but was steady the rest of the game and recovered a squib kick in the second half.
The Indians had the ball at midfield with 2min in the game but the Washington Bluejay defense held tough and ended the game with a sack.
Next up the Indians will travel to Liberty HS, Friday September 16th….come out and support your Indians!
